Pivot Points and Endless Reorganizing

Hi everybody, it's Mark Rushton of Mark Rushton Gallery.  It's Sunday, October 30, 2022.  And this is my "Sunday Stats" and "Weekly Update" post.

Night Landscape

This week I added some "pivot points" to my gallery.  First up is "Night Landscape", a monochromatic, acrylic ink on spun-bonded Olefin painting.  This painting, which was made during a livestream video, arrived quickly and with minimal effort.  Ah, if only all of them could show up like this!

What makes "Night Landscape" kind of a pivot point is it being monochromatic.

You're On Your Own

The Way Out Is the Way In

The second pivot points would be You're On Your Own and The Way Out Is the Way In, two small charcoal drawings on mixed media paper.  This led me to creating an entire section of the gallery devoted to drawings.

The Great Seal of the State of Iowa (version 1)

The last one is the new Collage section of the gallery.  I added three collage paintings this week, including this one, The Great Seal of the State of Iowa (version 1).

This artwork was also created in a video live stream.  I was trying to repaint a crappy painting, and I ended up making a collage with a thermal-printed photo from my Poooli Printer, with acrylic ink, and on to spun-bonded Olefin.  In the past, I haven't done much with figurative or symbolic iconography, but experimenting this way seems to have opened up new possibilities.

As for the weekly stats, it was a good week.  Had a sale.  Email list went back up, as did YT, FB, and BitChute subs.  Video watch count keeps going up.  One of my live stream video sessions had a number of people in them, including a random watcher who was using the chat to talk with me about my work and the spun-bonded Olefin that I use.  That was fun.  I've had those interactions before, but not very often.

The Mark Rushton Gallery web site got an updated theme.  I'm happy with it.

I seem to be in an endless reorganization phase regarding my "old art", but perhaps that's just a side effect of moving the studio space and rebooting my visual art business.  I have a lot of half-finished and "need to be repainted" works, and I spent some time this past week grouping it in the studio and for storage.  To me, it's kind of an overwhelming number.  I'm sure a lot of artists end up in the same situation.

The other thing I have to do is keep photographing my finished catalog of artworks, get them into the gallery web site, and to balance that with my desire to keep making new artworks.

This time around, I am much better organized.  I am focusing on smaller, unframed works at reasonable prices.  I enjoy using the Airtable database.  Loading artworks on the back end of the web site is getting more familiar.  I'm in a good groove regarding the email list and live streams.

But there's only so much time in the day, and my neck has been hurting lately.  I'm on the mend, but I think I had some bad ergonomics this past week.
